How do these lasers work?

The individual lasers utilize different light-frequencies and conductors that concentrate the radiation of light. Simply stated, these light-beams interact with your tissues in different ways to produce different types of results. Common for both of them, is that the settings are extremely precise, and can be adjusted with immense accuracy. As a result, we can control exactly where and how deep into the skin the treatment is applied, and what effect the treatment has. The various types of light-pulses are adjusted to produce a wide range of beautifying, corrective, rejuvenating and healing results.

Patients can benefit from cold, warm or hot applications, depending on the desired outcome. In fact, the Er:YAG can be adjusted to generate heat in such a manner that you almost don’t feel it, when used in the non-ablative SMOOTH technology mode. This is done through delivering light with a certain frequency which produces heat within the tissues for only a microsecond; too short for the brain to register, while achieving results based on the actual temperature. Each micro-pulse of light is of a different intensity and depth, and these micro-pulses are perfectly spaced to avoid “stacking” of heat, while generating an even heat throughout. This is often used for tightening procedures, where tiny fibers within the tissues are shrunk, and collagen production is stimulated for increased elasticity and firmness. Patients normally only notice a slight warming sensation, and in fact most find the treatment quite comfortable.

The technician can target the treatment with microscopic precision, in such a way that only a tiny segment of skin within the light-dot of the laser is affected. This is useful for treating tiny areas of discoloration, broken capillaries, treat sun-damage, melanomas, moles, scar tissue and various other topical issues, while not affecting the surrounding skin.

The lasers can be used in ablative or non-ablative modes, and can produce both fractional and non-fractional light. The ablative (Er:YAG laser) mode is typically used for breaking down cell structures within specified areas of tissue, while the non-ablative (Nd:YAG laser) stimulates the tissues to promote circulation and to activate the tissues own restorative functions. The Nd:YAG can also be used to produce a slight thermal heating of a the very top layer of the skin, to create a skin-resurfacing effect and remove wrinkles, while in conjunction the Er:YAG is used to stimulate deeper tissues for collagen matrix regeneration.

The lasers are used on larger areas of skin, to tighten, plump, exfoliate and correct, with better results than many other treatment methods. The procedures are also normally less painful, faster, cleaner, and require far less recovery time than most other treatment options.
